Los Angeles Kings Aim for Offensive Upgrade Under Laviolette

The Los Angeles Kings are set to enhance their offensive capabilities under the guidance of new head coach Peter Laviolette. With proven wingers like Artemi Panarin, Adrian Kempe, and Kevin Fiala, the Kings have a solid foundation. However, the team faces challenges in center depth following the retirement of Anze Kopitar, a key player in their lineup. Last season, the Kings' defensive corps struggled to generate offense, with Brandt Clarke and Drew Doughty leading the defensemen in scoring. Clarke, who is a pending restricted free agent, was the only defenseman to surpass 25 points. Laviolette is optimistic about maximizing the potential of his defensive players, encouraging them to contribute offensively. If the Kings can improve their scoring, they hope to break a streak of five consecutive first-round playoff exits. Since winning the Stanley Cup in 2014, the Kings have not advanced past the first round in seven postseason attempts. General manager Ken Holland is confident in Laviolette's ability to bring playoff success, citing his impressive track record with multiple teams. Laviolette will have the autonomy to assemble his coaching staff, although former interim coach Smith will not be retained. The Kings are eager to turn the page and aim for a more successful season ahead.
